How The Tamarind Tree streamlined operations with restaurant EPOS software so staff can focus on customers

Classic contemporary Indian restaurant The Tamarind Tree creates a new cuisine by combining favourites and authentic dishes with exotic spices, herbs and fruits.

After undergoing a major refurbishment, the 150-seat restaurant found its manual front of house system did not meet its needs.

Owner Mr Shobbir Ahmed felt too much staff time was spent taking orders, running back and forth to the kitchen and writing out bills, instead of enhancing customer service and driving up revenue.

In addition, without cash controls or management data readily available, the restaurant could not judge which menu items were performing the best.

Aloha restaurant EPOS software to the rescue

The restaurant installed Aloha, the leading restaurant EPOS software from NFS Technology Group.

The three-terminal system includes kitchen printing, which has brought a new accuracy to the preparation of orders. Chefs now get completely accurate information printed directly in the kitchen, rather than having to decipher handwritten orders. This saves time and reduces waste, as well as improving customer service and sales value.

Delivery module speeds takeaway orders

At The Tamarind Tree, NFS also installed a delivery module as part of the Aloha restaurant EPOS software. It enables the restaurant to track customer information and make the order process quicker because customers are identified by their postcode or phone number.

Capturing customer preferences and what they have ordered previously also helps to improve service, make order taking faster and give a boost to up-selling – customers are reminded of the dishes they enjoyed last time.

Mr Ahmed says: “We are pleased that the Delivery Module will help us build a valuable source of client information and give our customers better service and more accurate order capture.”

Mr Ahmed commented that NFS provided excellent service, and the restaurant appreciated that the trainer stayed in contact after the installation.

“This made sure we were able to get to grips with some of the finer aspects of the restaurant EPOS software,” Mr Ahmed said.
